FOR TAX PROFESSIONALS

Software & registration

Who is the free software for?

Optimum software is for professional tax preparers with an EFIN and PTIN. It is intended for preparing client returns, rather than a consumer do-it-yourself tax service.

Is the software really free?

Yes. Optimum software access is free with registration. Tax preparation services, bank products, and other third-party or transaction services have separate terms. Confirm any applicable fees before using those services.

What is a PTIN?

A Preparer Tax Identification Number identifies a paid tax return preparer. The IRS generally requires anyone who prepares or assists with federal returns for compensation to have a valid PTIN. Review current requirements and renewal steps on the official IRS PTIN page.

What is an EFIN?

An Electronic Filing Identification Number is issued to an approved IRS e-file provider. It is separate from an individual preparer’s PTIN. Review the application and approval process on the official IRS e-file provider page.

Can I register before I have an EFIN or PTIN?

Software registration is intended for preparers who have both. If you are still obtaining them, contact Optimum to discuss your next steps. A software registration does not replace IRS applications or authorize you to prepare or transmit returns.

How do I get started?

Complete the free registration form with your contact and business details. Your request begins onboarding. Software credentials and setup instructions are provided separately through the platform.

Does submitting the form immediately create a software account?

No. The website saves your registration request and displays a reference number. Onboarding and software account access are separate steps. Contact Optimum if you need help with an existing request.

Can I try the software first?

Yes. Open the Optimum demo request link. Online 1040 and Desktop 1040 in the Software menu open that same link directly. Use sample data when exploring a demo.

Where can I find the software features and walkthrough?

The Software features page explains published platform capabilities. The Software walkthrough page includes an official ProWeb overview video, a roadmap, and your demo link. Enabled options depend on your account configuration.

Can my clients send documents from their phones?

TaxesToGo supports sharing documents, messaging, and signature workflows with a preparer. Use Optimum’s TaxesToGo link and confirm the app setup during onboarding.

Can I upload tax returns or identity documents through this website?

These website forms are for contact details and service interests. Do not submit tax identifiers, passwords, tax returns, or banking records here. Ask Optimum for an approved document-sharing method, such as an enabled client portal or TaxesToGo workflow.

Are tax preparation, bookkeeping, and planning also free?

Free access applies to the software. Personal tax preparation, business tax preparation, bookkeeping, and tax planning are professional services with separately agreed scope, timing, and fees. Request a consultation to discuss your needs.

Does software access guarantee an IRS acceptance or refund?

No. Software access does not guarantee return acceptance, a refund amount, or a processing date. Your return and any required correction must be handled based on your records and the relevant filing requirements.

How do I get help or training?

Visit Support or the walkthrough for software guides and setup help. You can also email info@optimumtaxproservices.com or call +1 (609) 608-0013. Do not send passwords or sensitive tax documents in a support inquiry.

What should I prepare for my first conversation?

Gather your prior-year return, current income statements, and a list of changes in your household, work, or finances. Optimum will confirm the exact records needed after reviewing your situation.

Can I discuss income from more than one source?

Yes. Tell us about wages, independent work, investments, rental activity, and other income sources so we can define the preparation scope and document requirements.

What if some of my documents are missing?

Tell us which records are missing before preparation begins. We can discuss the information needed and the next steps for obtaining it. Do not substitute guesses for missing figures.

Can you review a prior-year return or a tax notice?

Mention the year involved and the type of notice or concern when you contact us. We will confirm whether the review is within the service scope, what records are needed, and any separate fee.

How long will preparation take?

Timing depends on the completeness of your records, the complexity of the work, and appointment availability. Ask for an expected schedule when the scope is confirmed; filing and refund processing are separate timelines.

How do I request personal tax help?

Use the contact form and choose personal tax, or call +1 (609) 608-0013. Begin with contact details and a short description of your needs; request an approved sharing method for tax documents.

Business tax

What business information should I bring?

Start with entity and ownership details, prior-year business returns, financial statements, transaction records, and relevant payroll information. We will confirm additional requirements for your business.

Can I discuss which returns my business needs?

Yes. Tell us how the business is organized, where it operates, and whether its ownership or activity has changed. The appropriate preparation scope is determined from your circumstances.

What if my books are not ready?

Tell us how current your records are and which months or accounts need attention. Bookkeeping cleanup may need to be scoped separately before tax preparation can proceed.

Are bookkeeping and business tax preparation included together?

They are separate services unless an agreed engagement includes both. Confirm deliverables, timing, responsibilities, and fees before work starts.

Can you help with more than one business?

Include the number of entities and a brief description of each when requesting a consultation. Each entity’s records and preparation needs should be assessed separately.

How are business tax fees determined?

Fees depend on the agreed work, entity and return complexity, and the condition of the records. Request a consultation for a scope and fee discussion; free software access does not include professional preparation.

Bookkeeping

What do you need to assess my bookkeeping?

Bring recent bank and credit-card statements, existing reports, and details of the accounting system you use. Tell us the last period reconciled and any outstanding issues.

Can I ask about catching up overdue books?

Yes. Tell us which periods are incomplete, how many accounts are involved, and what records are available. Cleanup needs and timing will be assessed before work is agreed.

Can bookkeeping be arranged on a recurring basis?

Discuss your preferred reporting frequency and the volume of transactions during the consultation. The schedule, reports, and responsibilities are confirmed as part of the engagement.

Which reports will I receive?

Agree the reporting package at the outset. Discuss whether you need income and expense summaries, a profit-and-loss report, a balance sheet, or other information for your business decisions.

Do I need to change my accounting software?

Tell us which tools you currently use before making any changes. Compatibility, access arrangements, and any migration work should be discussed and agreed first.

Does bookkeeping include payroll or tax filing?

Do not assume those services are included. Confirm whether payroll, returns, cleanup, or other tasks are part of your agreed scope and whether separate fees apply.

Tax planning

How is planning different from preparation?

Preparation focuses on completing a return using the relevant records. Planning is a separate conversation about your current position, goals, anticipated changes, and decisions ahead.

When should I request a planning conversation?

Contact us when you expect a change in income, work, business activity, or financial goals. Starting before a decision gives more time to gather records and discuss the implications.

What should I bring to a planning meeting?

Bring recent returns, current income and financial information, and a list of upcoming changes or decisions. We will confirm the additional details needed for the agreed analysis.

Can we discuss both personal and business circumstances?

Yes. Explain how your business and personal finances connect so the scope can account for the relevant information. Separate entities or additional analysis may require additional work.

Does planning guarantee a particular tax saving?

No. Outcomes depend on your facts, the applicable rules, and the actions taken. Any proposed approach needs to be evaluated for your circumstances; a specific saving is not guaranteed.

Will my plan need to be updated?

A change in your income, goals, business, or other relevant circumstances can affect an earlier analysis. Discuss when to revisit the plan and whether follow-up work is included in the engagement.

Self-employed tax

What records should independent workers collect?

Gather payment records, income statements, business expense records, prior-year returns, and payment information. Include a description of the work you do and any changes during the year.

Can I discuss income from several clients or platforms?

Yes. Bring a complete picture of your activity across clients, payment processors, and platforms. Keeping records together helps identify questions and reconcile the information before preparation.

What if personal and business transactions are mixed?

Tell us which accounts contain mixed activity and organize the supporting records. We can discuss what clarification or bookkeeping work is needed before the preparation scope is finalized.

Can I ask about expenses related to my work?

Yes. Bring the records and explain how each expense relates to your activity. Treatment depends on your circumstances and supporting information; a receipt alone does not establish the tax treatment.

Can I discuss payments and planning for the year ahead?

Yes. Bring your current income information, prior return, and payment records. A planning conversation can be scoped separately to review your questions and changing circumstances.

Do I need the free preparer software to use this service?

No. The software offer is for professional preparers with an EFIN and PTIN. A self-employed client can request professional tax services directly through the contact page.
